kite

i designed and made my own kite out of yarn, tissue paper, toothpicks and ribbon.  i like smaller things better.

big day

today i joined the junior choir at church.  after practice we got to tour the pipe organ.  i even got to blow into some pipes.

for supper i made sushi all by myself for the first time.

spring

in our neighbours' yard we saw the first butterfly of the year.  it just finished migrating.  i think it is a monarch.

'b' is for bad

yesterday we went to province house to protest plan b. we made our own signs.  the government is moving the highway through the beautiful forest. many animals and people will lose their homes. lots of trees will be cut down.

james and the giant peach by roald dahl

- what was your favourite part of this book?
- when they were catching all the seagulls, because they needed to lift the peach out of the water before the sharks ate any more of it. they used the silkworm and miss spider to make silk for the strings, and they tied these strings around the seagulls' necks. they used the earthworm as bait to trick the seagulls. i like intense things.

- did you have a favourite character?
- the glowworm! because she didn't quite say a lot, but the narrator talked a lot about her.

- would you like to be the glowworm?
- well, no, because maybe i should pick a boy character if i was going to be one for the rest of my life. but never mind, i could pretend to be the glowworm. great.

- if you were making your own movie of this book, how would you do it?
- i would do it stop-motion. i mean claymation. but i wouldn't make the claymation bugs look realistic. i would make it look as much like the pictures in our book as i could.

- whom do you think would love this book?
- my friend henry. because he likes really crazy intense things.
